Janet B Sessoms, Artist

Janet B. Sessoms: wife, mother, glowing grandmother, world traveler--and an award winning artist.  She works in watercolor, oil and acrylics, exploring the variations of colors in shadows, light and reflective light in a variety of subjects.  Janet's accomplishments are many.  More recently, her painting "For The Love Of Spring" was selected by her peers as the poster art to represent the 2014 Spring Show for the Wilmington Arts Association in Wilmington, NC. (See the last image below.)  I recently visited Janet in her studio at The Artworks (TM), an artists' village in Wilmington.  She's a delight to chat with, inviting you into her world with lovely southern charm.  She shared with me what inspires her and how she reflects these inspirations in her paintings:

I must share with you two of my favorite paintings from Janet's works.  I'm a sucker any day of the week for a bearded iris.  Like the one I had in a former garden, Janet's bearded iris took me back to the many times I had tended and waited eagerly for the first opening of my "Mr. Blue." My second favorite left me marveling how well Janet captured the piercing eyes of this elderly gentleman.  He looks straight at me.  And I look straight back at him into his eyes and write an imaginary novel on the life behind those eyes.  In both paintings you will see the light and shadow so beautifully brushed in by what Janet "sees" and then shows us.

Wilmington, NC is azalea country. Every year it celebrates the opening of the myriad of blossoms as they paint the city in a bouquet of colors.  So too do the crab apple blossoms, just as Janet interpreted them in this gorgeous cluster.  Note the light and shadows so vividly portrayed.

My favorite quote from Janet is that "Life is good" which she shares with us in her paintings.
